Behavioral Health SEO that Helps People Find Care They Can Trust
SEOMA is a Florida behavioral health SEO agency, based in Vero Beach, that helps therapy practices, psychiatric groups and licensed addiction treatment programs reach people searching for care on Google, Google Maps and AI assistants. Strategy is led by former CFPB Director of SEO Callan Pyfer and built for one of the most regulated categories in search. In our AI Overview sources study, Google’s overview for “best therapist in Vero Beach” cited practices’ own websites and Psychology Today.

Definition
What Is Behavioral Health SEO?
Behavioral health SEO is the work of making a therapy practice, psychiatric group or treatment program easy to find and easy to trust when people search for mental health or addiction care. It combines local SEO, pages for each specialty and level of care, accurate directory listings, clinician-reviewed content and technical work that helps Google and AI tools understand who you treat and how.
The category is held to a higher standard than almost any other. Google treats health information as Your Money or Your Life content, searchers are often vulnerable, and paid search is restricted: Google only allows addiction treatment ads from providers certified by LegitScript. For many programs, organic search and the Map Pack carry most of the load, so they have to be done carefully and done well.
How people search
How Do People Search for Behavioral Health Care?
Searches range from calm research to urgent need. Each one calls for a different page and a different next step.
| Search | What the person needs | What earns the call |
|---|---|---|
| “Therapist near me” or “anxiety therapist Vero Beach” | A licensed clinician nearby with openings | Map Pack visibility, accurate directory profiles and a page for each specialty |
| “Therapist that takes my insurance” | Confirmation that their plan is accepted | An insurance page and profile details listing accepted plans |
| “Online therapy Florida” | Telehealth from a clinician licensed in their state | A telehealth page that states licensure and service area clearly |
| “Alcohol detox near me” | Medically supervised detox, often urgently | A detox page with licensure, what to expect and a clear admissions contact |
| “IOP vs PHP” asked to ChatGPT | A plain explanation of levels of care | Answer-first level-of-care content written so AI tools can cite it |
| “Does insurance cover rehab” | Cost and coverage before calling | An honest cost and insurance page with a verification of benefits form |
What we do

Every engagement starts with the $499 audit and custom KPI dashboard, then focuses first on the pages and profiles closest to calls and admissions.
| Service | What it includes | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Local SEO and Google Business Profile | Profiles for each location, categories, services, hours and questions | People choose nearby care from the Map Pack |
| Specialty and level-of-care pages | Anxiety, depression, trauma, couples therapy, detox, residential, PHP, IOP and outpatient | Each condition and level of care gets a page that can rank and answer questions |
| Directory and locator listings | Psychology Today and other directories, plus SAMHSA’s FindTreatment.gov for licensed programs | Directories rank for “near me” searches and confirm your details to Google |
| Clinician-reviewed content | Content written for patients and families, reviewed and bylined by licensed clinicians | Shows the expertise and trust Google expects for health topics |
| Technical SEO and schema | Site speed, mobile usability, organization and location schema, FAQ markup | Helps Google and AI tools read your services and locations correctly |
| AI search optimization (GEO) | Answer-first content, consistent entity details and third-party mentions | Gets your practice or program named in AI answers about care options |
| Privacy-safe analytics | Conversion tracking that keeps health details out of advertising tools | Measures calls and admissions without exposing patient information |
Compliance
Which Rules Shape Behavioral Health Marketing in Florida?
Florida regulates addiction treatment marketing directly. Section 397.55, Florida Statutes, prohibits licensed substance abuse treatment providers and recovery residences from deceptive marketing, including false or misleading statements about their services or location on websites, and sets requirements for marketing contracts with call centers and lead generators. Florida’s Patient Brokering Act, Section 817.505, separately prohibits paying or receiving anything of value for patient referrals.
Paid search has its own gate. Google requires LegitScript certification before a provider can advertise recovery-oriented addiction services in the United States, and not every service is eligible. Organic rankings and the Map Pack have no such gate, which is why accurate, well-built pages matter so much in this category.
Tracking needs care too. In December 2022, HHS issued guidance warning that tracking pixels on health websites could disclose protected health information. In June 2024 a federal court in Texas vacated the part covering public, unauthenticated pages, and HHS later dropped its appeal, but the guidance still applies to logged-in pages such as patient portals. We keep advertising pixels off intake forms, portals and condition-specific conversions regardless. This is general information, not legal advice; your attorney has the final word.
What we measure
How Do We Measure Behavioral Health SEO?
SEOMA’s behavioral health work includes technical SEO and schema for a multi-state addiction treatment provider and ongoing content and local SEO for a licensed therapy practice. In every engagement, the dashboard tracks the numbers that mean someone reached out for care:
| KPI | Data source | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Admissions and intake calls | Call tracking and GA4 conversions | The clearest signal that search is producing patients |
| Verification of benefits and contact forms | GA4 conversions, configured without health details | Shows intent from people ready to start care |
| Profile calls and direction requests | Google Business Profile | Map Pack performance for each location |
| Visibility for specialty and level-of-care searches | Google Search Console | Whether the pages people need are being found |
| AI citations for your practice or program | SEOMA prompt panel and Signal Score | Whether ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews name you |

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does behavioral health SEO cost?
SEOMA’s SEO audit with a custom KPI dashboard is $499. Monthly behavioral health SEO plans are $1,500, $2,500 or $5,000, depending on competition and the number of locations.
Can you help an addiction treatment program that cannot run Google Ads?
Yes. Google requires LegitScript certification for addiction treatment ads, but organic search and the Map Pack have no certification gate. We build accurate level-of-care pages, listings and local visibility so the program can be found without ads, while keeping marketing within Florida law.
Is it safe to use analytics and ad pixels on a therapy or treatment website?
A 2024 federal court ruling narrowed HHS guidance on public pages, but the guidance still applies to logged-in pages such as patient portals, and privacy lawsuits continue. We keep advertising pixels off intake forms, portals and condition-specific conversions and track results without sending health details to ad platforms.
Do you work with individual therapists and small practices?
Yes. We work with solo therapists, group practices, psychiatric practices and treatment programs. Smaller practices often start with Google Business Profile, directory profiles and a few strong specialty pages.
How long does behavioral health SEO take?
Profile and technical fixes can show movement in local results within weeks. Specialty pages, listings and authority usually build over three to six months, and competitive treatment markets take longer.
Does behavioral health SEO help with AI search?
Yes. People increasingly ask ChatGPT and Gemini about therapy options and levels of care. AI tools lean on consistent details, clinician-reviewed content and third-party mentions, and we check monthly which AI answers name your practice or program.
Do you work with providers outside Florida?
Yes. SEOMA is based in Vero Beach and works with behavioral health providers across Florida and nationwide, including multi-state programs.
